About this work

A massive, gnarled oak dominates the composition, its thick trunk splitting into heavy horizontal boughs draped with dense green foliage that fills most of the frame. At its base a small figure in a pale blue coat with reddish hair raises a slender sword to touch the bark in a ceremonial gesture, standing alone on an expanse of bright mown lawn.

Layered greens run from deep shadowed foliage to sunlit yellow-green highlights under soft, diffused daylight with no harsh shadows. Smooth, blended brushwork gives the bark and leaves a rounded, storybook softness, and the scale contrast between the tiny figure and the towering tree lends the scene a calm, quietly reverent mood.
